GS1 GDSN
GS1 GDSN™ (Global Data Synchronisation Network) is an automated, standards-based global environment that enables secure and continuous data synchronisation, allowing all partners to have consistent item data in their systems at the same time.
GDSN is a network that connects data pools (eg GS1net and 1SYNC) which are regional sources of supplier and retailer data, connecting to the GS1 Global Registry (a Global Yellow Pages directory operated by GS1 GDSN inc). This global registry allows companies to locate source/supplier or recipient/retailer data pools to exchange standardised data with their trading partners.
Locally in Australia, GS1 Australia has managed a local data pool called EANnet. Since its launch in 2000, EANnet has been the source of product information from suppliers within the FMCG industry for retail chains such as the Coles Group, and also Metcash. Being multi-industry capable, EANnet leads the way globally for the synchronisation of product and price data across a number of industries including Health, Office Products, Automotive, and Hardware to name a few.
By the end of 2007, EANnet will be phased out, to make way for the new GDSN compliant data pool called GS1net. Managed locally by GS1 Australia, GS1net will enable data source (suppliers) or data (e.g. retailers) to synchronise their product information using the latest in GDSN standards, but also link to the GS1 Global Registry.
