Position Overview

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ROLE

We are looking for a Functional Tester to join our team, who can ensure the quality of software products by implementing processes, standards, and methodologies that result in reliable and defect-free software.

As a Functional Tester, you will be responsible for identifying and addressing defects early in the development process, thereby improving the overall quality of the software.

Objectives and Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: You will work with the engineers to:

  • Create test plan that outlines test strategy, scope and schedule based on rationale.
  • Design and develop test cases to ensure complete test coverage using established testing techniques.
  • Maintain test traceability to ensure test completeness and assess impact on any software changes.
  • Perform verification for impact analysis of new requirements and identify product deficiencies.
  • Establish and maintain product-training materials and support documentation.
  • Perform peer review for test cases to ensure test quality.
  • Validate each software build based on user acceptance criteria, selected methods, and intended use cases.
  • Document and track defects, ensuring accurate and timely communication of issues to the product design & development teams.
  • Work closely with developers to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve-identified issues.

KEY OBJECTIVES: You will be expected to verify that the software meets specified requirements and functions as intended.

Skills and Cultural Requirements

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS: You must have the following technical capabilities:

  • Ability to analyse requirements and identify potential issues.
  • Proficiency in managing test data and test scenarios to ensure comprehensive testing coverage.
  • Ability to perform research on the business domain and the context of the software under testing.
  • Ability to mimic the end-user experience for UI/UX and focusing product that aligns with user expectations.
  • Ability to articulate ideas, concepts, issues, and findings effectively.
  • Ability to provide live demonstrations of software features to support and delivery teams, showcasing functionality and answering questions in real-time.
  • Identify opportunities for test automation and working closely with Test Automation Engineers.
  • Ability to draw flow charts using tools like Visio, Edraw, etc.
  • Hands-on knowledge about contemporary SDLC and QALC.

PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES: You must have these professional traits:

  • Capable of working independently after sufficient process/product/application training.
  • A quick learner with the ability to acquire new domain knowledge with self-guided learning capability.
  • Not afraid to ask questions or seek assistance.
  • Skill in handling feedback from customers, both positive and negative, and using it to improve products, documentation and training sessions.
  • Natural willingness to share information among team members.
  • Willingness to accommodate overseas time zones depending on project geographies (e.g., US, EU and/or Australia).

Experience

ESSENTIAL:

  • 5+ years hands-on, post-graduate experience in functional software testing.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  • Experience using automation testing tools.
  • Experience and knowledge with Agile development practices.
  • Experience using Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Zephyr).

Education

ESSENTIAL:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
